Free & Fit - Leading with a Nurturing Nature by Tim Cheux

As we go about our weekends, building our plans and preparing for Halloween, Thanksgiving, and Christmas, it’s time to take a step back and consider how we want to lead into the Holidays. We are working through the news every day with another struggle, another fatality, another shocking headline, and another distressing article which causes us unrest. In spite of all these disappointments, we can find hope in how we follow our leader, Jesus Christ. Yes, how we follow our Lord and Saviour can help us in how we live and how well we love our neighbour so well!
When we think about how Jesus led His disciples, Jesus would often be on mission, speaking out about leaving behind what we know, focusing on what’s ahead, and picking up our cross and following Him. We see Jesus embracing, healing, and revealing Himself to some of the most marginalized in society — even up until His death — through bonding Peter and Mary, to the Resurrection, and revealing Himself first to the nearest and dearest ladies in His life, and then, to His Disciples. Jesus always led with a nurturing nature. We must do the same.
This week, we learnt about the first female Archbishop of Canterbury, Dame Sarah Mullally—the Bishop of London—the first ever in the Church of England’s almost 500-year history. Sarah, like Jesus, has led in London and now to the wider Anglican Communion as a nurturing and caring pastor to her people. Like Jesus, she cares about how people are treated and seeks to amend the indifferences between the “us and them” mentality, often perceived between members of the Church and those beyond the Church’s four walls.
With such change upon us, it is only Christ’s example that shines brighter than the darkness and breaks such extreme divisions in our world. Therefore, it’s essential for us to lead with a nurturing nature. With our October Walking for Freedom event, “Summit and Walk,” and our November Thanksgiving campaign, we hope you can join us in seeking justice and sharing thankfulness in our world this Fall.
For who has known the mind and purposes of the Lord, so as to instruct Him? But we have the mind of Christ [to be guided by His thoughts and purposes]. [Is 40:13]”
